SASKATOON

SASKATOON, SK, CANADA

Saskatoon is the fastest growing city in Canada due to international refugee resettlement and an influx of First Nations families moving to urban areas from rural reserves.  Both groups enter the city with hopes for a new life, yet they both face unique obstacles. Displacement from family and the realities of urban poverty leave migrant populations vulnerable to marginalization and often treated as outsiders in Saskatoon. Refugee and First Nations communities disproportionately experience high rates of incarceration, unemployment, child apprehension, and poor health.  Despite these challenges faced by the resilient West Side neighborhood of Saskatoon, God is stirring and creating great opportunities for neighbours to unify in seeking the wellbeing of their community.

Servant Partners is planting a team in this richly diverse neighbourhood found in Saskatoon. Together with neighbours, we will discover the potential and capacity that each person has to contribute to the transformation of our community. We will root our hope for transformation in Jesus, the one who makes room for everyone in his family. In our pursuit of justice with our neighbours, we will follow the way of Jesus,  the one who walked before us “proclaiming good news to the poor, freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, setting the oppressed free, and proclaiming the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18).
